Lauren Halsey

As we kick off the launch of our network we like to honor Lauren Halsey for her great body of work.

The experimental structures Lauren Halsey creates are renowned for fusing the poetry and landscapes of the South Central Los Angeles neighborhood with living archives, the natural world, technicolor, Afrofuturism, and Funk.

The artwork serves as aesthetic socio-political documentation with the goals of promoting freedom, self-definition, and alternative approaches to fostering community and group economics.

The Fondation Louis Vuitton (2019), MOCA Los Angeles (2018), The Hammer Museum (2018), Community Coalition South L.A. (2017), and The Studio Museum in Harlem (2015) are just a few of the places where Lauren has displayed work.

  The Studio Museum in Harlem (2015), Skowhegan (2016), and Recess (2016) are among the residencies Lauren has done. (2014). She has received the William H. Johnson Award (2017), the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Award, and the Mohn Award (2018). (2015).
